Research payments that drug and device manufacturers and group purchasing organizations reported to CMS under the Physician Payments Sunshine Act (Open Payments): about a million payments a year to teaching hospitals, research institutions and practitioners for clinical trials and other research, each with its sponsor, site, principal investigators, study name and ClinicalTrials.gov ID, products and amount. Search payments, rank them by sponsor, site, investigator, study or product, and read CMS's yearly totals nationally, per manufacturer or per teaching hospital. Program years 2019 to 2025 (published June 2026). Public domain U.S. Government data; every answer carries CMS's attribution, its disclaimer that a reported relationship is not necessarily improper, and its rule for disputed records.

A person on the payment: a 10-digit NPI, a last name (`Jabbour`), or a first and last name (`Elias Jabbour`, `Jabbour, Elias`). Matched against the five principal investigator slots and the physician or practitioner paid directly; the last name exactly (case-insensitive), the first name as a prefix (`Eli` matches ELIAS). Suffixes such as Jr, III, MD or PhD are dropped.

The reporting entity (manufacturer or GPO) that made the payment: CMS's 12-digit ID (`100000000146`), or words matched case-insensitively anywhere in an entity's current or former names in CMS's reporting entity profile (`AstraZeneca` matches AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP, AstraZeneca AB and AstraZeneca UK Limited). `manufacturers_matched` lists the entities used. More than 100 matches is invalid_input.

Program year, the calendar year the payments were made. Defaults to the latest year CMS has published (2025, published June 30, 2026). CMS keeps the latest seven years online, 2019 to 2025 now; each is its own dataset, so a call covers one year.

Where the research was paid: a teaching hospital's 6-character CMS Certification Number (`450076`), or words matched case-insensitively anywhere in the teaching hospital or non-covered recipient entity name (`MD Anderson` matches both `Ut Md Anderson Cancer Center` and `MD ANDERSON CANCER CENTER UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS`). Sites are named as each manufacturer reported them, so try a short distinctive name.
