Confirm that a company exists, where it was formed, whether it's in good standing and who acts as its registered agent, without clicking through five state websites. Connect the Firecrawl connector and Claude can look up an LLC or corporation using Firecrawl Alexandria, pulling the entry directly from registries including UK Companies House, the Delaware Division of Corporations and Florida's Sunbiz.
Best for
- Making sure a landlord, supplier or client is a genuine registered entity before money or signatures change hands.
- Locating the registered agent when you need to serve process or send formal notice.
- Finding the state of formation and the other states where a company is registered to do business.
Connector and data providers
Connector: the Firecrawl connector. Claude uses it to query the registries listed in Firecrawl Alexandria, and each lookup takes a few credits from your connected team's Firecrawl plan.
Data providers in Firecrawl Alexandria
| Provider | Tool | Gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Delaware Division of Corporations | Search plus entity record | Look up by name or file number, then read the free record: whether it's a corporation or an LLC, its type, the formation date, foreign or domestic, plus the agent's name, address and phone. Status is not part of it. |
| Florida Division of Corporations (Sunbiz) | Search plus entity record | Names listed alphabetically with their status, then the complete entry: FEI/EIN, filing date, status and last event, the registered agent, each officer and director, the annual report history, and PDF links for filed documents. |
| Colorado Secretary of State | Search plus entity record | A name search showing status and formation date, then a record with form, status, formation jurisdiction, principal office, registered agent and the month its annual report falls due. |
| UK Companies House | Search, profile, officers, PSC | A company search followed by the profile (type, status, incorporation date, registered office, SIC codes, former names, and accounts and confirmation statement dates), then the officer list and the PSC register. |
| Virginia SCC, Georgia, Missouri | Entity name search | Every result row shows the entity type and status, and Virginia and Georgia rows add the registered agent. A separate record tool in each state opens the full entry. |

Starter prompt
Fill in the company and the states you want checked:
Use Firecrawl to look up Palantir Technologies Inc. in the Delaware and
Colorado business registries in Firecrawl Alexandria. Quote me the cost
of each tool before calling it.
Per state, I need:
- The exact legal name plus the file or ID number.
- Entity type, formation date, and whether it's domestic or foreign
there.
- The status, or a clear note if the registry gave none.
- The registered agent's name and address.
Stick to the registry's fields. Where something is missing, tell me
rather than guessing.Before you start
- Link Firecrawl to Claude. Go to the Firecrawl connector and press Connect. Your browser opens Firecrawl so you can log in or register for free, select a team and grant access. Nothing else is needed, no API key and no MCP server, and Firecrawl in Claude explains each step.
- Turn the connector on. In a chat, click +, open Connectors and switch on Firecrawl.
- Name the state when you can. Companies often form in one state and register in others, and every registry needs its own search.
Limitations of using Claude to look up an LLC or corporation
Company filings live in government systems that update every day and disclose different fields. Answering from memory or a general web search, Claude runs into six problems.
- The US has no central register. Businesses register state by state, and OpenCorporates counts more than 50 official registers, every state and territory keeping its own with its own data format (OpenCorporates). Leave the state out of the question and Claude has to guess where to look.
- Delaware status costs money. Delaware's free search shows a company's name and file number, when it was formed and who its registered agent is, with anything further offered for a fee (Delaware Division of Corporations). Online status is $10 per entity, or $20 including franchise tax and filing history (Delaware). Any snippet calling a Delaware company "active" got that from somewhere other than the free record.
- A search result isn't proof of standing. Delaware mixes active and inactive entities in its search and cautions that appearing there doesn't indicate current status. Since status shifts, a stale directory listing can present a dissolved company as operating.
- Officer data is patchy. Only some state databases include officer or director names, and beneficial owners are generally absent from the public filings states keep (OpenCorporates). In South Carolina, the Secretary of State's office says it has no names or addresses for officers or directors at all (SC Secretary of State). Asked who runs an LLC, Claude may reach for a name from an unrelated source.
- The UK works differently. Companies House runs one national register and publishes the registered address, incorporation date, current and past officers, former names and insolvency details at no charge (GOV.UK). Habits from US lookups, like hunting for a registered agent, don't apply there.
- Stale or made-up details. Anthropic publishes a training cutoff for every model and says that on recent events Claude may not have accurate information (Anthropic). Its help center adds that answers are sometimes incorrect or misleading, and that Claude shouldn't be your singular source of truth (Anthropic). That matters when the detail in question is a file number or a formation date nobody double-checked.
How it works
Three parts sit behind a registry lookup in Claude:
- Firecrawl Alexandria: where AI agents go for structured data, from 100+ licensed official providers to government registries such as the ones above and search indexes Firecrawl runs over web pages, papers, code docs and public-sector material. In Firecrawl's evaluation of 845 tasks, the model and prompts never changed and answers were graded blind by AI, and Firecrawl Alexandria raised answer quality by 21% compared with agents left to their built-in web tools.
- A search, then the record: each registry pairs a name search, which returns the registry's identifier (Delaware uses file numbers, Florida document numbers, Colorado 11-digit IDs and the UK company numbers), with a record tool that opens the full filing behind that identifier.
- Registry wording kept: fields arrive with the registry's labels and values, so Colorado shows "Good Standing" and Florida shows "ACTIVE". The Delaware tool flags every record as missing status, which stops Claude from treating a blank as a clean bill of health.

Coverage limits
- Seven registries. Six US states (Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Virginia) plus Companies House in the UK. Companies formed elsewhere need that state's own website.
- No Delaware status or history. Only the free Delaware record comes back, so proof of good standing still means the state's paid lookup or a certificate.
- Searches cast a wide net. Florida results mix in near-miss names, inactive companies and even trademarks, while an exact-match search in Missouri also surfaced lapsed fictitious names. Open the record for the precise legal name before you rely on anything.
