Starter prompt
Put your ticker in place of NVDA:
@firecrawl Get today's news on NVDA from Benzinga's real-time newswire
through Firecrawl Alexandria. Tell me the price of each tool before you run
it.
Give me a short briefing:
- The five most important stories mainly about Nvidia, newest first, each
with the publish time, headline and link.
- Benzinga's Why Is It Moving note for NVDA today, if there is one.
- One line on anything that affects other tickers in the same stories.
Stick to what the stories say and don't give buy or sell advice. Before you start
- Install the plugin from the directory. The button below takes you there.
- Link a Firecrawl account. Benzinga calls are charged to it. Sign up if you don't have one.
- Accept Benzinga's data terms. They appear the first time ChatGPT uses Benzinga, and on a team account an organization admin may need to accept them first.
Limitations of using ChatGPT for real-time stock news
On its own, ChatGPT answers from training data with a cutoff date, plus whatever its web search turns up, and that causes six problems with stock news.
- No live feed. Without a connected source, ChatGPT can't see today's news or prices. Ask for a current figure and it may still give you one, stated confidently and wrong (Intrinio).
- Search finds coverage of the story. ChatGPT's built-in search reads pages that write about the news. A result shows when a page was indexed, which is often later than when the story broke, and a press release gets paraphrased by several sites before search reaches it.
- Uneven coverage across companies. Large companies get far more analyst and media coverage, so models have more text about them and tend to forecast them with more confidence. Smaller companies with less written about them can be treated more cautiously because less information exists, according to a 2026 CFA Institute analysis of attention bias in AI investing.
- Mixed source quality. News sources don't carry the same credibility, and poorly vetted information leads to misleading conclusions (Quadratic). In a search result, a blog post repeating a rumor looks much like a newswire story.
- Mistakes with numbers. A review of ChatGPT in finance found it makes factual mistakes with numerical data, including misstating how many studies a paper covered. LLM grounding in real data stops the model inventing figures, but it can still misread one.
- Too many headlines. Markets produce thousands of headlines and press items a day (Quadratic). A chat reply shows a handful, so the useful ones have to be picked by ticker, topic and time first.
How it works
Real-time stock news in ChatGPT depends on four things:
- Firecrawl Alexandria: Firecrawl's library of data for AI agents. It holds 100+ official data providers, alongside Firecrawl's own web index and its Research, Developer and Government indexes, and providers are included under agreement and paid when an agent pulls their data. Across 845 tasks with the same model and prompts, Firecrawl's evals found agents using Firecrawl Alexandria scored 21% higher on answer quality than agents using built-in web tools.
- The newswire: Benzinga's news search filters by ticker, topic, importance and time window, so smaller companies don't get buried under market-wide coverage.
- The explanation: Why Is It Moving notes give the short reason behind a price move, attributed and timed.
- Read-only access: the plugin links only your Firecrawl account, so ChatGPT can read news through it but has no access to a brokerage account and can't place trades.
