Get a public company's statements, its management's words from the latest earnings call and the economic data behind a thesis, each number tied to where it came from. The Firecrawl plugin gives ChatGPT a line into Firecrawl Alexandria, where Fiscal.ai, SEC EDGAR and FRED supply the data. For budgeting and your own bank accounts, ChatGPT has a separate Finances feature that links accounts through Plaid (OpenAI); this page covers company and market research.
Best for
- Analysts using ChatGPT for financial analysis who need a quick comp table or one-page company brief.
- Investors using ChatGPT for investing research who want the earnings call and latest 10-K without opening ten tabs.
- Finance teams that need a macro series, such as unemployment or CPI, with its release date.
Plugins and data providers
Plugin: the Firecrawl plugin. It lets ChatGPT call financial data providers in Firecrawl Alexandria and bills each priced call against the Firecrawl account you link, with no separate Fiscal.ai subscription.

Limitations of using ChatGPT for finance without Firecrawl
Finance depends on numbers that are current, correctly sourced and calculated precisely, and ChatGPT alone is weakest on exactly those.
- Figures stated with false confidence. OpenAI lists incorrect facts and overconfident answers among ChatGPT's known failure modes, and asks users to verify data (OpenAI). A revenue number that is one quarter off still sounds right.
- Frozen knowledge. The CFA Institute notes that a model's knowledge is fixed at training, with cutoffs that can be a year or more old, so it struggles with new, proprietary or real-time information (CFA Institute). Last week's earnings call isn't in there.
- Small math slips. In the same CFA case study, a model asked for a share of executive pay answered 99.7864% when the correct figure was 99.7854%, two invented digits in an otherwise close answer.
- Regulators urge caution. An investor alert from the SEC, NASAA and FINRA warns that AI-generated information can rest on outdated or false data, and can be faulty or entirely made up even with accurate inputs (Investor.gov).
- Search snippets aren't data. OpenAI cautions that the results and citations ChatGPT gets from web search may be incomplete, out of date or wrong (OpenAI). A figure lifted from a news page carries no audit trail.
How ChatGPT pulls financials, filings and macro data with Firecrawl
A finance question in ChatGPT pulls from these sources:
- Firecrawl Alexandria: the plugin's source of financial and public data. Its 100+ official providers, Fiscal.ai among them, are paid under agreement, and Firecrawl adds indexes of its own, such as the Firecrawl Government Index for public records. When Firecrawl compared agents on 845 tasks, the ones given Firecrawl Alexandria earned 21% higher quality scores than the ones on stock web tools.
- Statements you can audit: Fiscal.ai returned NVIDIA's trailing-twelve-month revenue of about $303.0 billion for the period ended Jul 26, 2026, and linked the figure to page 3 of the 10-Q it came from.
- Calls and filings: Fiscal.ai lists each quarter's earnings resources, such as the Aug 26, 2026 release, slide deck and transcript for NVIDIA's second fiscal quarter, and SEC EDGAR returns 10-K sections as text.
- Macro context: FRED gave the US unemployment rate as 4.2% for September 2026, with the series last updated on Oct 2.

Coverage limits
- Public companies. Fiscal.ai and SEC EDGAR cover listed companies and SEC filers. Private company financials aren't included.
- Standardized versus as reported. Standardized statements make companies comparable but use Fiscal.ai's line mapping; ask for the as-reported version when the company's own labels matter.
- No investment advice. These tools return data and documents. Decisions about what to buy or sell are yours.
