Learn who raised or cut their rating on a stock, how much the price target changed, and whether that analyst's past calls have held up. Once the Firecrawl connector is linked, Claude can track stock upgrades and downgrades using Firecrawl Alexandria with the analyst ratings, consensus data and analyst roster from Benzinga.
Best for
- Listing each analyst rating change and price target revision on a stock across the last week or month.
- Checking the consensus analyst rating before an earnings report or a major decision.
- Weighing a new call against the accuracy history of the analyst behind it.

using Benzinga's analyst data in Firecrawl Alexandria. Tell me what each
tool costs before running it.
Then give me:

earlier and latest rating, and earlier and latest price target.
- Price target revisions where the rating held steady.
- The current consensus rating and consensus price target, plus analyst
counts at buy, hold and sell.

and average return.
Present the data as Benzinga reports it, without buy or sell advice. Before you start
- Have a paid Firecrawl plan. Upgrades and downgrades come from Benzinga's ratings calendar, which runs on paid plans only. Sign up or upgrade beforehand.
- Hook up the connector. Press Connect on the Firecrawl connector page. A Firecrawl sign-in page appears; log in there, pick the paid team and authorize the connector, with no API key involved. Firecrawl in Claude has the full walkthrough.
- Turn Firecrawl on in the chat. Click +, open Connectors and enable it.
- Data terms for some providers. A few Firecrawl Alexandria providers can't be used until your organization has agreed to their terms, which an admin takes care of from the Firecrawl dashboard.
Limitations of using Claude to track analyst upgrades and downgrades
Rating changes arrive at any hour, dozens a day across the market, and an assistant leaning on training data and web search can't keep pace. Six problems stand out.
- Stale calls get passed off as current. Claude models learn from data up to a cutoff and may miss what happened afterward (Anthropic). Anthropic also says links found through web search occasionally fail to work (Anthropic). The result can be last quarter's downgrade described as the analyst's present stance.
- Targets trail the stock. If a share price slides and some analysts hold off on trimming their targets, the spread between estimates grows and the consensus target is left too high, per a 2024 Management Science paper. Any consensus copied out of an article carries that lag along.
- Rating moves and target moves are tracked apart. Under FINRA Rule 2241, research from member firms has to chart when each rating or target was assigned or revised. Headlines often mention one and skip the other.
- Firms use the labels differently. Words like buy, hold and outperform aren't standardized across brokerages, and an analyst's employer may underwrite or own shares of the company being rated (SEC). Treating every rating as if it used the same scale loses that.
- Accuracy varies by analyst. Average hit rates conceal big differences from one analyst to the next (AnaChart), which is why the record of whoever made a call changes how much it's worth.
- Calls that never happened. According to Anthropic, Claude may present quotes that seem authoritative yet "are not grounded in fact", and readers should check the sources it cites (Anthropic). A fabricated upgrade credited to a real bank reads no differently from an actual one.
How it works
One catalog and three Benzinga tools do the work:
- Firecrawl Alexandria: gives AI agents data straight from the organizations that publish it. Its 100+ official providers are paid under agreement whenever their data is used, and they sit beside indexes Firecrawl keeps of the web, research literature, developer material and government content. Firecrawl's 845-task evaluation kept model and prompts identical, had an AI judge score answers blind, and found agents with Firecrawl Alexandria reached 21% higher answer quality than agents that had built-in web tools alone.
- Each individual call: the ratings calendar can be cut down to one ticker, a date range, a kind of action such as an initiation, a single firm or analyst, or a minimum Benzinga importance score.
- The consensus: consensus ratings show in one view where all the analysts covering a stock currently land.
- Who made the call: the roster links an analyst's name to an id and an accuracy history, and the id can be used to pull every rating that analyst issues.
The connector only gives Claude access to your Firecrawl account. It can't look at a brokerage account or trade.

Build your own analyst ratings workflow
Write the prompt around the question you really have. To check several tickers at once for new upgrades:
With Firecrawl, look at MSFT, GOOGL, AMZN, META and NFLX for analyst
upgrades and initiations from the past two weeks with importance 3 or
higher. Give firm, new rating and new price target for each, ordered by
the size of the target change. To follow a single analyst you trust:
Use Firecrawl to look up Dan Ives in Benzinga's analyst roster, with his
firm, one-year success rate and average return. After that, list all his
ratings from the past 90 days with ticker, action and price target.Telling Claude which stocks or analysts, which kinds of action and what order to sort in keeps the reply short.

- No investment advice. The ratings are published data, and acting on them is your decision.
