Find out what a record is worth
Here's how to find out what a vinyl record is worth with ChatGPT or Claude: what each pressing actually sells for on Discogs, and which ones are worth the most.

What came back
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) sent back, word for word:
I used Firecrawl Alexandria's Discogs provider to pull the 1977 vinyl versions of Rumours and live marketplace data for 20 of them. Short version: most original pressings are cheap, and the valuable ones are rare promos and test pressings.
One limit: Alexandria returns the current lowest asking price and listing count, not sales history. I tried the Discogs release pages for low, median and high sold prices, but they don't show those to scrapers. So the figures below are what it costs to buy one today, not what copies have sold for. The provider doesn't say what currency the prices are in, though it's probably USD.
Prices for the common originals (1977, BSK 3010 / K56344)
Rumours sold in huge numbers. The most common US pressing alone is in about 20,000 Discogs collections, so the cheapest copies cost very little.

The valuable pressings
The ones worth the most are those with few owners and a long wantlist:
- US test pressing with label copy sheet (16676718): 13 owners, 770 wants, none for sale. It's probably the most valuable original, but with no listings and no sales data, Discogs gives no price.
- Japan promo "見本盤" (sample copy) (20820217): 41 owners, 638 wants. Cheapest listing $152.78 (6 for sale), the highest asking price I found.
- Nigeria K56344 (18226060): 32 owners, 587 wants. Cheapest listing $46.07 (2 for sale).
- Rhodesia RRC 2224, on Reprise (15659995): 24 owners, 712 wants. Cheapest listing $25 (3 for sale), which looks cheap for how few exist.
- US Goldisc mispress with Side A on both sides (30184889): 1,225 owners, none for sale right now.
Among standard copies, the US MCA pressings and the UK and Australian Burbank-label copies have the highest price floors.
What I didn't cover
- There are 195 versions from 1977. I checked prices for the 20 most owned or most notable from the first 100 and didn't look at the other 95.
- These are asking prices only. To see what copies actually sold for, open the release's Statistics panel on discogs.com while logged in.
- Firecrawl's rate limit held things up partway through, but every request eventually went through.
