## More

- [Human guide](https://firecrawl.dev/app/alexandria/api-weather-gov)
- [OpenAPI spec](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/openapi.json)

## Capabilities

- [Alert](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/alert): One NWS alert by CAP id from /alerts/{id}: full description and instruction, geocodes, affected zones and the storm polygon when the alert has one.
- [Alerts active](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/alerts_active): Active NWS watches, warnings and advisories (status actual) for a GeoJSON geometry. Samples the centroid and ring vertices, resolves their county, forecast and fire zones with /zones?point=, reads /alerts/active?zone=... and keeps zone-based alerts (match zone, precision county) plus storm-based alerts whose polygon intersects the geometry or lies within buffer_km of it (match polygon, precision polygon).
- [Alerts history](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/alerts_history): NWS alerts (status actual) whose zones or polygon covered a GeoJSON geometry within a date window, from /alerts?zone=...&start=...&end=.... The API keeps about seven days of alerts; a window older than that is reported in `missing`, not guessed. Pages with `continuation` (the API's opaque cursor).
- [Forecast daily](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/forecast_daily): Per-local-day quantitative forecast for the NWS 2.5 km grid cell containing the geometry's centroid, aggregated from the raw gridpoint series (/gridpoints/{wfo}/{x},{y}): precipitation (mm), max/min temperature (C), min relative humidity, max wind and gust (km/h), max probability of precipitation, plus the day and night text from the 12-hour forecast, which also supplies the local UTC offset.
- [Forecast hourly](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/forecast_hourly): Hourly forecast periods for the NWS grid cell containing the geometry's centroid, from /gridpoints/{wfo}/{x},{y}/forecast/hourly: temperature (as the source states it, F), dewpoint (C), relative humidity, probability of precipitation, wind and short forecast text, with local-offset timestamps.

## 1. Choose this provider when

NWS watches, warnings and advisories (active and last ~7 days) and daily/hourly forecasts for a GeoJSON geometry in the United States: the land contract shared with the other land programs (geometry in; spatial_precision, sources, missing and a location echo out).

## 2. Minimal request

Call `POST https://api.firecrawl.dev/v2/scrape` with `{ alexandria: { provider, capability, options } }`. For a batch, send `{ alexandria: [...] }` with up to 10 calls.

### Alerts active

- Capability: `weather/alerts_active`
- Description: Active NWS watches, warnings and advisories (status actual) for a GeoJSON geometry.
- Instructions: Which watches, warnings and advisories (red flag, fire weather, flood, heat, severe storms) are in effect right now for this paddock, parcel or point, optionally including those within up to 5 km. For past alerts use alerts_history; for one alert's full text use alert.
- Cost: 5 credits per call
- Capability file: [Alerts active](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/alerts_active)

Accepted options:
- `buffer_km` (number): Also keep storm-based alerts whose polygon lies within this many kilometres of the geometry, and resolve zones for points this far outside its bounding box. Example: `0`
- `events` (string[]): Keep only these event names (case-insensitive substring match on the NWS event name, e.g. "Red Flag", "Flood", "Heat"). Example: `[]`
- `geometry` (object, required): GeoJSON (RFC 7946, WGS84, [lon, lat]) Point, Polygon or MultiPolygon, or a Feature wrapping one. Rings must be closed; altitude is ignored. A FeatureCollection is refused (send one place per call), as is a geometry crossing the antimeridian. Invalid input is `invalid_input` with a JSON pointer and a stable code (ring_not_closed, latitude, longitude, too_large, too_many_vertices, outside_coverage). Example: `{}`
- `severity` (string[]): Keep only alerts with one of these CAP severities. Example: `[]`

### Alerts history

- Capability: `weather/alerts_history`
- Description: NWS alerts (status actual) whose zones or polygon covered a GeoJSON geometry within a date window, from /alerts?zone=...&start=...&end=.... The API keeps about seven days of alerts; a window older than that is reported in `missing`, not guessed. Pages with `continuation` (the API's opaque cursor).
- Instructions: Which alerts affected this parcel or paddock in the last week (start/end as YYYY-MM-DD). Pass `continuation` from the previous page to continue; alerts_active for what is in effect now.
- Cost: 5 credits per call
- Capability file: [Alerts history](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/alerts_history)

Accepted options:
- `continuation` (string): Opaque cursor from the previous page's meta.page.next_cursor. Example: `<continuation>`
- `end` (string, required): Last day of the window, YYYY-MM-DD (UTC, through 23:59:59). At most 31 days after start. Pattern: ^[0-9]{4}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}$. Example: `<end>`
- `events` (string[]): Keep only these event names (case-insensitive substring match on the NWS event name).
- `limit` (number): Alerts per page before polygon filtering. Example: `100`
- `start` (string, required): First day of the window, YYYY-MM-DD (UTC, from 00:00:00). Pattern: ^[0-9]{4}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}$. Example: `<start>`

### Forecast daily

- Capability: `weather/forecast_daily`
- Description: Per-local-day quantitative forecast for the NWS 2.5 km grid cell containing the geometry's centroid, aggregated from the raw gridpoint series (/gridpoints/{wfo}/{x},{y}): precipitation (mm), max/min temperature (C), min relative humidity, max wind and gust (km/h), max probability of precipitation, plus the day and night text from the 12-hour forecast, which also supplies the local UTC offset.
- Instructions: How much rain is forecast per day over the next 7 days for this field, with highs, lows, wind and minimum humidity. Hourly detail: forecast_hourly.
- Cost: 5 credits per call
- Capability file: [Forecast daily](https://firecrawl.dev/alexandria/agents/providers/api-weather-gov/weather/forecast_daily)

Accepted options:
- `days` (number): Number of local days to return, starting with the first day of the forecast. Example: `7`
